Between Egypt and the Gulf

For hours social media has been filled with deep and sincere expressions of solidarity from the Egyptian people with their brother the Saudi people following the cowardly, foolish attack carried out by the Houthi terrorist militia on Riyadh airport, which claimed innocent civilian non-combatant victims of various nationalities among the killed and the wounded. There are more than 700,000 Saudi residents in Egypt and every month between 40 to 60,000 visitors and tourists arrive.

Why Don't We Deal with the Houthis Instead of Fighting Them?

There has previously been engagement with most of those who have ruled Sanaa in the past, regardless of their identity and ideology. This is a realistic proposal. What condemns it is the Houthi project itself. The group is in conflict with the idea of the state, and its behavior has revealed its attachment to the authority of the "organization." The Houthis want to benefit from the state's resources and institutions and from others' recognition of it, while retaining weapons as a group and waging wars according to their external affiliations. From this angle, reaching power becomes a means of empowering the group's project. The events of 2013 and for two consecutive years, provide a clear test for them.

Yemenis Are the Biggest Victims of the Houthis

Targeting Saudi airports and civilian facilities, and the killing and wounding of travelers, while pilgrims and civilians were passing through airport terminals, does not merely represent a new round in the trajectory of escalation led by the terrorist Houthi militia, but rather constitutes another chapter in the madness of a renegade group that kidnapped Yemen and brutalized Yemenis and subjected them to the worst suffering, then moved its armed project beyond the borders, until civilian airports, travelers and economic facilities became part of its target bank.
